Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Pale-vented Thrush (Turdus obsoletus) and Hauxwell's Thrush (Turdus hauxwelli), and all possibly better treated as conspecific. Present species probably closer to Hauxwell's Thrush (Turdus hauxwelli). Subspecies orinocensis sometimes included in Pale-vented Thrush (Turdus obsoletus). Subspecies personus and bondi have in the past been considered to represent a separate species. Geographical variation to large extent clinal, and some subspecies possibly not tenable.
The following 5 subspecies are recognised:
bondi Deignan, 1951 - St Vincent, in southern Lesser Antilles.
personus (Barbour, 1911) - Grenada, in southern Lesser Antilles.
aquilonalis (Cherrie, 1909) - North-eastern Colombia, northern and eastern Venezuela and Trinidad.
orinocensis Zimmer, JT & Phelps, 1955 - Western Venezuela and eastern Colombia.
fumigatus Lichtenstein, 1823 - The Guianas and northern and eastern Brazil.
