Habitat
Subtropical and tropical montane moist forest. From 1,800 - 3,500 m, occasionally down to 950 m.
Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama.

Subspecies
Has been treated as conspecific with Black-billed Thrush (Turdus ignobilis). Geographical variation minimal and probably clinal.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
- differens (Nelson, 1901) - South-eastern Mexico and Guatemala.
- rafaelensis Miller, W & Griscom, 1925 - Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador and north-western Costa Rica.
- plebejus Cabanis, 1861 - Costa Rica and western Panama.
