Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
rubrocanus Hodgson, 1846 - Extreme eastern Afghanistan and north-western Himalayas. Non-breeding north and north-eastern Indian Subcontinent.
gouldii (J. Verreaux, 1870) - Eastern and north-eastern and north-eastern Tibetan Plateau east to central China and northern and western Yunnan. Non-breeding Myanmar and north-western Thailand.
