Subspecies
Normally placed in genus Platycichla, but basis for generic separation not supported by molecular studies.
The following 5 subspecies are recognised:
venezuelensis (Sharpe, 1900) - Northern and eastern Colombia and northern and western Venezuela.
melanopleura (Sharpe, 1900) - North-eastern Venezuela and Trinidad.
xanthoscelus Jardine, 1847 - Tobago.
polionotus (Sharpe, 1902) - Southern Venezuela, Guyana and north-eastern Brazil.
