Aruba, Bahamas, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada (B), Cayman Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, French Guiana, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Netherlands Antilles, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, St Pierre and Miquelon (P), Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, USA (B), Venezuela.

Vagrant to Bermuda, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Sweden, United Kingdom, Virgin Islands (U.S.).

Subspecies
Formerly placed in Hylocichla, along with Grey-cheeked Thrush (Catharus minimus), Bicknell's Thrush (Catharus bicknelli), Russet-backed Thrush (Catharus ustulatus) and Hermit Thrush (Catharus guttatus).

Proposed subspecies levyi (Alberta east to northern Michigan and Wisconsin) and pulichorum (western Maryland south to northern Georgia) considered inseparable from salicicola and nominate, respectively. Subspecies subpallidus sometimes merged with salicicola.

The following 4 subspecies are recognised:

  • salicicola (Ridgway, 1882)   -  South-western and south-central Canada and western USA. Non-breeding Brazil.
  • subpallidus (Burleigh & Duvall, 1959)   -  North-western USA. Non-breeding Brazil.
  • fuscescens (Stephens, 1817)   -  South-eastern Canada and eastern USA. Non-breeding Brazil.
  • fuliginosus (Howe, 1900)   -  Extreme eastern Canada (southern Quebec east to Newfoundland). Non-breeding Brazil.
