Vagrant to Mali.

Subspecies
Genus sometimes treated as a subgenus of Bias. Proposed subspecies carolathi (from Angola) considered synonymous with aequatorialis.

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

flammulatus (Verreaux & Verreaux, 1855) - Forests from Gambia (one record) and Guinea east, including Bioko I (Fernando P�o), to western DRCongo.
aequatorialis Jackson, 1904 - Forests of central DRCongo, northern Angola and Uganda, and very locally southern Sudan (Bengengai), north-western Tanzania (Minziro Forest), western Kenya (Kakamega and Nandi Forests); disjunctly southern DRCongo (Kasaji, in Katanga) and neighbouring north-western Zambia (Mwinilunga district).
