Subspecies
Subspecies hardly separable by plumage and a review is perhaps desirable. Subspecies singetra often synonymized with nominate, but differs in plumage of white morph. Subspecies comorensis often misspelt "comoroensis", which is an incorrect subsequent spelling.
The following 6 subspecies are recognised:
singetra (Linnaeus, 1766) - Northern, western and southern Madagascar.
mutata (Linnaeus, 1766) - High Plateau and eastern Madagascar.
comorensis Milne-Edwards & Oustalet, 1885 - Grand Comoro (Njazidja), in western Comoro Is.
voeltzkowiana Stresemann, 1924 - Mohéli (Mwali), in west-central Comoros.
vulpina (Newton, E, 1877) - Anjouan (Ndzuani), in central Comoros.
pretiosa (Lesson, R, 1847) - Mayotte (Maore), in eastern Comoro Is.
