Papua New Guinea (B) (NB), Solomon Islands (B) (NB).

Bougainville in Papua New Guinea (B), six islands in the Solomons Islands (B).

Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Habitat clearing through logging is the main threat.

Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

holopolium (Sharpe, 1888) - Solomon Is (Buka, Bougainville, Choiseul, Santa Isabel, Guadalcanal).
pygmaeum (Mayr, 1931) - Central Solomons (Kolombangara, New Georgia, Vangunu, Gatukai). Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, New Georgia Cicadabird (Edolisoma pygmaeum).
tricolor Mayr, 1931 - Malaita I (southern Solomons).
