Subspecies
Sometimes thought to form a species group with Cerulean Cuckooshrike (Coracina temminckii), Sunda Cuckooshrike (Coracina larvata) and Halmahera Cicadabird (Edolisoma parvulum).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- grisea (De Vis, 1890) - Mountains of New Guinea from Snow Mts east to Huon Peninsula and eastern Highlands Province.
- longicauda (De Vis, 1890) - Mountains of south-eastern New Guinea.
