Nest
Shallow, open, composed of fine twigs and rootlets, bound with cobweb, in a fork of a tree, up to 20 meters or more above the ground.
Eggs (Guide)
2; dull white to green-grey, dotted with grey, olive and brown, often forming a zone at the larger end; oblong-oval; about 31 x 22 mm. Incubation: by both parents.
Young
Altricial, nidicolous. Fed by both parents.
Subspecies
The following 10 subspecies are recognised:
axillaris (Salvadori, 1876) - Western Papuan Is (Waigeo I) and mountains of west, northern and south-eastern New Guinea (Vogelkop, northern coastal ranges and Huon Peninsula).
maforensis (Meyer, AB, 1874) - Numfoor I, in Geelvink Bay (north-western New Guinea).
sublineata (Sclater, PL, 1879) - Bismarck Archipelago (New Ireland, New Britain).
nigrifrons (Tristram, 1892) - Northern Solomon Is (Bougainville, Choiseul, Santa Isabel).
ombriosa (Rothschild & Hartert, 1905) - Central Solomons (Kolombangara, New Georgia, Rendova and others).
