Subspecies
Although often expanded to encompass Urocissa, present genus is distinctive in appearance of its members (the green magpies). This species forms a superspecies with Common Green Magpie (Cissa chinensis) and Javan Green Magpie (Cissa thalassina), and sometimes treated as conspecific with Javan Green Magpie (Cissa thalassina). Alternatively, subspecies concolor and jini have sometimes been considered to represent a separate species, and katsumatae has likewise been treated as another full species.

The following 5 subspecies are recognised:

  • jini Delacour, 1930   -  South-central China (southern Sichuan south to southern Guangxi).
  • concolor Delacour & Jabouille, 1928   -  Northern Vietnam (eastern Tonkin, northern Annam).
  • chauleti Delacour, 1926   -  Central Annam (Vietnam).
  • hypoleuca Salvadori & Giglioli, 1885   -  South-eastern Thailand, central and southern Laos and southern Vietnam (southern Annam and Cochinchina).
  • katsumatae Rothschild, 1903   -  Hainan I (southern China).
