Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

bonensis (Meyer & Wiglesworth, 1894) - Mountains of Northern, central and south-eastern Sulawesi.
bonthaina (Meyer, AB & Wiglesworth, 1896) - Mt Lompobattang, in south-western Sulawesi. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Southern Hylocitrea (Hylocitrea bonthaina).
