Subspecies
The following 7 subspecies are recognised:
leucosticta (Sclater, 1874) - Mountains of the Vogelkop, in north-western New Guinea.
mayri (Hartert, 1930) - Wandammen Mts, south of Geelvink Bay (north-western New Guinea).
centralis (Mayr, 1936) - Weyland Mts, Nassau Range and Oranje Range, eastern possibly to Star Mts (west-central New Guinea).
sibilans (Mayr, 1931) - Cyclops Mts, on northern coast of New Guinea.
menawa (Diamond, 1969) - Bewani Mts (Mt Menawa), in central North Coastal Range of New Guinea.
amabilis (Mayr, 1931) - Saruwaged Mts, in Huon Peninsula (north-eastern New Guinea).
loriae (Salvadori, 1896) - Mt Hagen and Schraderberg east through mountains of south-eastern New Guinea.
