Tropical rainforests, vine-scrubs, especially near watercourses.

Nest
Cup-shaped, composed of small strips of bark and leaves, bound with cobweb, lined with small dead leaves and decorated on the outside with modd, strips of bark, usually in a low vine, up to 10 meters above the ground.

Eggs (Guide)
2; pale blue-green, freckled with dull red, chestnut and grey, concentrated at the larger end; oval; about 19 x 14 mm.

Young
Altricial, nidicolous.

The following 10 subspecies are recognised:

  • leucops (Salvadori, 1876)   -  Mountains of Vogelkop, New Guinea.
  • albigularis (Rothschild & Hartert, 1907)   -  North-eastern Cape York Peninsula, Australia.
  • mayri (Hartert, 1930)   -  Wandammen Mts and the western part of Weyland Mts, New Guinea.
  • nigroorbitalis (Rothschild & Hartert, 1913)   -  Southern slopes of Nassau and Oranje Mts, New Guinea.
  • heurni (Hartert, 1932)   -  Eastern part of Weyland Mts and mountains of upper Mamberano River, New Guinea.
  • nigriceps (Neumann, 1922)   -  Victor Emanuel Mts and southern slopes of Oranje Mts, New Guinea.
  • melanogenys (Meyer, AB, 1893)   -  Hills of northern New Guinea from Cyclops Mts to Aicora River.
  • wahgiensis Mayr & Gilliard, 1952   -  Kubor and Wahgi Mts and Aroa River, area eastern New Guinea.
  • albifacies (Sharpe, 1882)   -  Mountains of south-eastern New Guinea.
  • auricularis (Mayr & Rand, 1935)   -  Oriomo River, southern New Guinea.


Similar Species
Eastern Yellow Robin (Eopsaltria australis), (subspecies: chrysorrhoa) which is slightly larger, lacks the white white of pale buff lores, has black legs and a yellow rump and Pale-yellow Robin (Tregellasia capito) which has a grey head, has a less prominent pale area around the eye and lores and has a faint, whitish wing bar.
