Nest
Dome-shaped, composed of grass, moss, bark fragments and fern-down, lined with fur and feathers, placed near the ground among dense foliage or in a perpendicular fork of a tree about 2 m above the ground.
Eggs (Guide)
3 or 4; white, sparingly speckled or finely blotched with red-brown; swollen-oval; about 18 x 14 mm.
Young
Altricial, nidicolous.
Subspecies
Has in the past been placed in genus Sericornis. Recently described subspecies greeniana poorly known, only four specimens. Genus originally combined with feminine adjective, and is thus deemed to be feminine.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
magna (Gould, 1855) - Tasmania (except north).
greeniana Schodde and Mason, 1999 - King Island, Bass Strait.
Similar Species
Tasmanian Scrubwren (Sericornis humilis) which has a buff throat, and upper breast, and lacks white tips to the secondary flight feathers.
