Nest
Small, cup-shaped, composed of fine strips of bark, matted with webbing and lined with fine grass, suspended from the end of a thin branch, often overhanging water.
Eggs (Guide)
2 - 3, rarely 4; white, spotted and freckled with fine red-brown, occasionally purple-brown, particularly at the larger end; tapered-oval; about 18 x 13 mm. Incubation: about 12 days; by female.
Young
Altricial, nidicolous. Fledge in 10 - 11 days.
Subspecies
May form a superspecies with Rufous-throated Honeyeater (Conopophila rufogularis). Populations of New Guinea and Torres Strait proposed as subspecies mimikae (described from Mimika R, in south-western New Guinea), but appear not to differ in plumage or size from Australian populations.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
mimikae Mathews, 1924 - Northern and southern New Guinea and Aru Islands.
albogularis (Gould, 1843) - New Guinea, northern Australia.
