Western Australia, north to the Fortescue River, through Central and South Australia to western New South Wales and north-western Victoria. Very rare near the coast in the east and south.

Cup-shaped, composed of bark and grass, lined with plant-down, placed in a low bush, within 1 - 2 m of the ground.
Eggs (Guide)
2 - 3; pale buff spotted at the larger end with red-brown and underlying purple; oval; about 20 x 14 mm. Incubation: about 14 days; said to be by female only.
Young
Altricial, nidicolous. Fledge in about 14 days.
