Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland and montane moist forest.
USA (E) (B).
Rarity Status
Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.
Status EX
Common in the 1890s, but declined drastically during the early 20th century. By the 1970s, it was confined to the Alaka`i Wilderness Preserve. The last report, of vocalisations only, was in 1987. Extinction was probably caused by habitat destruction and the introduction of black rat, pigs and disease carrrying mosquitoes.
