Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland and montane moist forest. Also, heavily degraded former forest, mangroves, rural gardens, urban areas. From sea-level - 1,900 m.

Range (Guide)
American Samoa, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Wallis and Futuna Islands.

Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

  • carunculatus (Gmelin, 1788)   -  Wallis and Futuna Is; eastern Fiji (Lau Group); Samoa (Savai'i, Upolu and offshore islets, including Nu'utele, Namua, Fanuatapu, Manono and Apolima); American Samoa (Tutuila and associated islets, and Manua Is); and Tonga (Vava'u Group, Ha'apai Group and Tongatapu Group).
  • taviunensis (Wiglesworth, 1891)   -  Vanua Levu, Taveuni and associated islets (including Mathuata, Nggamea, Rambi and Yangganga), in north-central Fiji. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Fiji Wattled Honeyeater (Foulehaio taviunensis).
  • procerior (Finsch and Hartlaub, 1867)   -  Western and central Fiji: Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, Viti Levu, Vatulele, Beqa, Lomaiviti Group (including Ovalau), and Yasayasa Moala Group. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Kikau (Foulehaio procerior).
