Subspecies
Subspecies intergrade on southern slopes of Snow Mts.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
flavirictus (Salvadori, 1880) - Southern watershed of Central Range from middle and lower Fly R east to southern slopes of south-eastern New Guinea.
crockettorum Mayr & Meyer de Schauensee, 1939 - Western and northern New Guinea from Vogelkop east to Sepik R and Herzog Mts and, in south, to Utakwa R (Nassau Mts), Snow Mts and probably farther eastern towards Fly R.
