Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Indonesian Honeyeater (Lichmera limbata) and Brown Honeyeater (Lichmera indistincta).

The following 5 subspecies are recognised:

incana (Latham, 1790) - New Caledonia.
griseoviridis Salomonsen, 1966 - Central Vanuatu, including Malakula, Ambrym, Paama, Lop�vi, Epi, Tongoa, Tongariki, Emae, Makura, Mai, Nguna and �fat�.
flavotincta (Gray, GR, 1870) - Erromango, in southern Vanuatu.
poliotis (Gray, GR, 1859) - Beautemps Beaupr�, Ouv�a and Lifou, in Loyalty Is.
mareensis Salomonsen, 1966 - Mar�, in Loyalty Is.
