Forms a superspecies, and sometimes treated as conspecific, with Red-headed Honeyeater (Myzomela erythrocephala) and Sumba Myzomela (Myzomela dammermani) and all closely related to the Cardinal Myzomela (Myzomela cardinalis) superspecies.
