Uncommon. Sparsely scattered colonies.

Habitat
Sandstone ranges and ridge broken into ledges and boulders, with a sparse coverying of spinifex and a sparse layer of stunted trees.

Nest
Bulky, domed, composed of spinifex stems, grass and leaves, loosley woven, lined with finer grass, placed in the top of a spinifex clump.

Eggs (Guide)
2 or 3; rather lustrous, pale pink, sparingly speckled and blotched with red, brown and mauve, often indistinct zone at the larger end; rounded-oval; about 20 x 16 mm. Incubation: by female.

Young
Altricial, nidicolous.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Forms a superspecies with White-throated Grasswren (Amytornis woodwardi).

Similar Species
Kalkadoon Grasswren (Amytornis ballarae) in the southern parts of its range and White-throated Grasswren (Amytornis woodwardi) whose range does not overlap.
