Nest
In a hollow of a tree, composed of fur, hair, bark fragments, dry grass and plant-down, usually close to the ground.
Eggs (Guide)
2 or 3; pale pink, closely spotted and speckled all over with red-brown and purplish red; oval; about 22 x 17 mm. Incubation: about 18 - 19 days; by female.
Young
Altricial, nidicolous. Fledge in about 22 - 23 days.
Subspecies intergrade in South Australia (Flinders Ranges).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
affinis Blyth, 1864 - Northern and central Murray - Darling Basin, west to the Flinders Ranges, SA.
superciliosus North, 1895 - South-western and southern central Australia (central western Australia east to southern northern Territory and South Australia, east to the western edge of the Flinders Ranges); intergrades with affinis in the Flinders Ranges.
Similar Species
Brown Treecreeper (Climacteris picumnus) which has less streaked ear coverts, a duller off-white eyebrow and has streaks in the center of the upper breast and in south and south-western Australia with Rufous Treecreeper (Climacteris rufus) if only calls are heard.
