Rapid series of about 22 deep, hollow 'huu' whistles over 2.5-3 seconds, rapidly increasing in amplitude, then trailing off at end.

Subspecies
Probably closely related to Tachira Antpitta (Grallaria chthonia).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
alleni Chapman, 1912 - Colombia on western slope of central Andes (Risaralda, in Cauca).
andaquiensis Hernández-Camacho & Rodríguez-M, 1979 - Head of Magdalena Valley, in Colombia, and both slopes in northern Ecuador (south to Napo and Cotopaxi).
Similar Species
Scaled Antpitta (Grallaria guatimalensis) which has black-scaled crown and upperparts.
