Subspecies
No subspecies.
May be ancestral to all Dendrocolaptidae with exception of Drymornis. Birds from localities south of R Amazon having paler upperparts and more tawny underparts sometimes separated as subspecies australis, but differences appear to be attributable to individual variation. By contrast, birds from southern bank have significantly longer bill than those from northern bank, suggesting that recognition of two subspecies may be warranted. Further study is needed.
