Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- striaticeps (Sclater, PL & Salvin, 1875) - Eastern Andes of Colombia (southern from Boyacá and western Casanare).
- melanorhynchus (Tschudi, 1844) - Eastern Andes in Ecuador (southern from Sucumbíos) and Peru (south to Puno).
