Possible close relationship of this species and Striated Softtail (Thripophaga macroura) to Asthenes suggested by some authors on basis of presence of throat patch.
Similar Species
Speckled Spinetail (Thripophaga gutturata) has chestnut crown, pale breast with dusky spots and lacks orange chin patch.
