Subspecies
No subspecies.
Was in the past considered a subspecies of Spix's Spinetail (Synallaxis spixi). The two are thought to be possibly sister-species by some authors, but others consider them not closely related because of differences in tail morphology, throat pattern and voice. Named taxon jaraguana from eastern Brazil (Goiás), described as a subspecies of Slaty Spinetail (Synallaxis brachyura), was based on misidentified specimens of present species.
