Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest, swamp forest. From 150 - 300 m.
Brazil, Ecuador, Peru.
Extreme north-eastern Ecuador (Lagartococha), north-eastern Peru and extreme western Brazil, mainly along R Amazon, R Napo and R Ucayali.

Has been treated as conspecific with Pale-legged Hornero (Furnarius leucopus ), or formerly as a dark morph of that species, but the two occur sympatrically in north-eastern Peru.
