Subspecies
Almost certainly most closely related to Three-wattled Bellbird (Procnias tricarunculatus), with which it shares several morphological characters.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
albus (Hermann, 1783) - Eastern and extreme southern Venezuela (eastern Bolívar, Cerro de la Neblina), the Guianas and adjacent northern Brazil (northern Roraima and northern Pará, also isolated records eastern from lower R Negro).
wallacei Oren & Novaes, 1985 - Serra dos Carajás, in south-eastern Pará (Brazil).
