Subspecies
No subspecies.
Closely related to Olivaceous Piha (Snowornis cryptolophus). Both formerly placed in genus Lipaugus, but morphological study and recent analysis of DNA sequences indicate only remote relationship to Olivaceous Piha (Snowornis cryptolophus). Previously suggested placement in genus Lathria, but that name unavailable.
