South-western Mexico, from central Michoacán and Morelos east to Oaxaca (west of Isthmus of Tehuantepec); recently found in north-western Guatemala.

Voice
A two-phrased song, a whistled 'twheeyu', then a rolling trill and abrupt whistle 'tr-r-r-eet-yu'. Also a 'chee-up'.
