Subspecies
Relationships within genus unclear, pending completion of major genetic study. Distribution apparently very patchy but little known, and degree of disjunction uncertain. Further work required in order to confirm true taxonomic status of subspecies.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
vividus Phelps & Phelps Jr, 1952 - Western Venezuela (Sierra de Períja, Andes of south-eastern Lara and south-eastern Táchira; probably also coastal cordillera in south-eastern Carabobo).
flavigularis Sclater, 1862 - Eastern Andes of Colombia (western side in western Cundinamarca and Huila), eastern Ecuador (eastern slope from western Napo south to Zamora-Chinchipe) and eastern Peru (northern Amazonas south to Cordillera Vilcabamba, in Cuzco).
