Subspecies
Genus was long known as Spizitornis. Forms a superspecies with Black-crested Tit-Tyrant (Anairetes nigrocristatus), and often treated as conspecific.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
albiventris (Chapman, 1924) - West-central Peru (Ancash south to Ica and western Ayacucho; single specimen from Apurimac).
reguloides (D'Orbigny & Lafresnaye, 1837) - South-western Peru (southern Ayacucho south to Tacna) and extreme north-western Chile (Arica).
