Subspecies
The following 5 subspecies are recognised:
schistaceiceps (Sclater, PL, 1859) - Southern Mexico (from southern Veracruz) south to Panama (east to Canal Zone).
superciliaris (Lawrence, 1871) - Northern, western and central Colombia (Caribbean coast, Magdalena and Cauca Valleys, in middle Dagua Valley on Pacific Andean slope, and south to western Meta on eastern slope).
griseolus (Todd, 1913) - Northern and central Venezuela and extreme eastern Colombia.
sylvia (Desmarest, 1806) - Extreme northern Brazil (along R Branco), Guyana and French Guiana.
schulzi (von Berlepsch, 1907) - North-eastern Brazil (south-eastern Pará east to Piauí).
