Subspecies
Formerly placed in genus Todirostrum. Forms a superspecies with Ruddy Tody-Flycatcher (Poecilotriccus russatus).

The following 4 subspecies are recognised:

  • obscurus (Zimmer, JT, 1940)   -  South-eastern Peru (from Cuzco) south to eastern Bolivia (Santa Cruz).
  • viridiceps (Salvadori, 1897)   -  Southern Bolivia (from Chuquisaca) south to northern Argentina (Salta).
  • cinereipectus (Novaes, 1953)   -  North-eastern and central-eastern Brazil (Alagoas, Bahia, south-eastern Minas Gerais, Espí­rito Santo).
  • plumbeiceps Lafresnaye, 1846   -  Eastern Paraguay, south-eastern Brazil (Rio de Janeiro and Sío Paulo south to Rio Grande do Sul), north-eastern Argentina (Misiones, Corrientes) and north-eastern Uruguay.
