Estimated population is 250 - 999 (2010).
Status VU
Destruction of habitat by logging appears to be the main threat. Introduced predators do not appear to have much impact.

Voice
A high-pitched, two-syllabic 'kree-kree-o', given mainly in the early morning, late evening and during rainy periods.

Similar Species
No other pitta is known for its range but vagrant Western Hooded Pitta (Pitta sordida) and Noisy Pitta (Pitta versicolor) are possible.
