Habitat
Montane forest, including degraded and selectively logged areas, preferring closed-canopy, primary montane, oak dominated forest, frequently on steep slopes. From 360 - 2,200 m.

Luzon, in northern Philippines.

Estimated population is 10,000 - 19,999 (2020) and decreasing.
Status NT
Habitat loss, compounded locally by hunting with snares are the main threats.

Closely related to Red-bellied Pitta (Erythropitta erythrogaster ).
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Red-bellied Pitta (Erythropitta erythrogaster ) which is smaller and lacks pale malar.
