Vagrant to Australasia. Pelagic distribution unknown. In eastern Pacific Ocean scattered sightings north of the equator, including the coasts of Mexico and central America. Breeds on tropical and subtropical islands in the mid Pacific Ocean including Marshall, Hawaiian, Johnston, Line Phoenix, Marquesas, Austral, Iles Gambier, Pitcairn and Easter Island.
