Rare vagrant. One sighting east of Wollongong, NSW (1986).

Habitat
Marine, pelagic, in sub-Antarctic and sub-tropical eastern Pacific Ocean, migrating north to seas off western North America in the non-breeding season.

Range (Guide)
Canada (NB), Chile (B), Colombia (NB), Costa Rica (NB), El Salvador (NB), Guatemala (NB), Mexico (NB), Nicaragua (NB), Northeast Pacific (NB), Peru, Southeast Pacific (B), USA (NB).

Vagrant to Argentina, Australia, New Zealand.

Unknown to Ecuador.

Breeding Season (Guide)
Does not breed in Australia. Breeds on islands off west coast of South America to northrn South Pacific and eastern North Pacific Oceans.

Similar Species
Light morph with light morph of Wedge-tailed Shearwater (Ardenna pacifica) which has a longer and more wedged tail.
