North Atlantic on Madeira, Portugal. Formerly also on the island of Porto Santo. Estimated population is 130 -160 and stable.

Voice
Moans and wails at breeding colonies. Silent at sea.
Similar Species
Cape Verde Petrel (Pterodroma feae) which is virtually identical, but slightly larger with longer, thicker bill and longer wings.
