Habitat
Circumpolar in seas of Antarctic Zone. Common in pack-ice and open water.

Range (Guide)
Antarctica (B), Argentina, Australia, Chile, Falkland Islands (Malvinas), South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.

Vagrant to New Zealand, South Africa.

Antarctica.

Mid November - min-March, on coasts of Antarctica and sub-Antarctic Islands.

Nest
A shallow depression in rock, lined with gravel, usually on broken but fairly level surfaces in snow-free areas, and in clefts, crevices and on ledges on sloping rocky cliffs. In pairs, in colonies.

Eggs (Guide)
1; matt, white, with a rough surface; elonagte-oval; about 70 x 48 mm. Incubation: 45 - 48 days; probably by both sexes. The eggs is incubated on the top of the feet.

Young
Semi-altricial, nidicolous. Fledge in about 37 - 45 days.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Similar Species
Cape Petrel (Daption capense) which has a different pattern above, including boldy chequered upper wings, and scalloped underwing primaries, and has a brownish-black to dark slate-grey head.
