Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest. From sea-level - 900 m.
Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Nicaragua (B), Panama (B), Peru, Suriname, Venezuela.
Poorly known. Amazonia, including southern Venezuela and the Guianas. Knowledge of distribution is likely to be conservative.

Subspecies
Very similar in appearance, ecology and behaviour to Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura ) and Lesser Yellow-headed Vulture (Cathartes burrovianus ). Has been regarded as an allospecies of Lesser Yellow-headed Vulture (Cathartes burrovianus ), but the two have widely sympatric ranges.
No subspecies.
