Dry savanna. Also, subtropical and tropical lowland dry shrubland, dry grassland, hot desert.
Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Côte dIvoire, Djibouti, Eritrea (B), Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Somalia, Sudan, Togo, Uganda.
Vagrant to Liberia, Yemen.
Senegambia east to Ethiopia and Somalia, and south to north-eastern Uganda and north-eastern Kenya, in Kedong Valley.
