A high, harsh, tern-like 'kik' or 'kirrik'. Sometimes a rolling 'kikki-kirrik-irrik'.

Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Oriental Pratincole (Glareola maldivarum) and Collared Pratincole (Glareola pratincola), although some authorities exclude current species from the superspecies. At one time erroneously considered a color morph of Collared Pratincole (Glareola pratincola). Also on occasion considered a subspecies of Collared Pratincole (Glareola pratincola).
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Collared Pratincole (Glareola pratincola) which overlaps in range and is very similar, but has white trailing edge to secondaries and, as does Oriental Pratincole (Glareola maldivarum), chestnut-wing linings.
