Habitat
During breeding season on heavily grazed, shortgrass prairie, xeric scrub and fallow fields, typically on prairie dog colonies. In non-breeding season semi-desert, dry, bare agricultural land.

Status NT
Hunting and destruction of nesting habitat due to extensive grazing are the main threats.
