Extensive habitat loss, especially mangroves, due to conversion to agriculture, aquaculture, forest clearing from logging, mining, road construction, are the main threats.

Voice
A rhythmic series of far-carrying hollow and nasal 'cjuí-cjuí-cjuí' and 'cjuo-cjuo-cjuo' notes, similar to that of Grey-necked Wood-Rail (Aramides cajaneus), with some variants.
