Habitat
During the breeding season on montane grasslands and moorlands, areas with lush grass, reeds, tussocks and bushes along streams, around ponds and in bogs. During the non-breeding season on dry ground among heaths and Alchemilla, human-modified habitats such as lawns, shrubberies and thickets in parks and gardens.

Status NT
Habitat destruction and degradation due to intensive grazing and mowing for building material, conversion to agriculture, are the main threats.

Food
Seeds, aquatic insects, especially water beetles. Also crustaceans, small snails, earthworms.
Voice
A ringing 'wrreeee-crreeeeeuw'. A shrill 'dideet' uttered in alarm.
