A loose structure composed of twigs and leaves placed in a depression in a rock, or a substantial bowl placed on the ground in dense vegetation.
Subspecies
Subspecies abbotti, of Assumption I, recently extinct.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
cuvieri (Pucheran, 1845) - Madagascar; formerly also Mauritius.
aldabranus (Günther, 1879) - Aldabra Is, Indian Ocean.
abbotti! (Ridgway, 1894) - Formerly Assumption I. Extinct.
